Frenulotomy is one of the most commonly performed minor surgical procedures. It is performed due to a short frenulum, which can be an obstacle in retracting the foreskin and normal development of the penis.
The procedure is performed on children from the age of 3 and is done under general anesthesia.
Basic Information
- The child arrives on the day of the surgery in the morning, fasted, and accompanied by parents.
- If pubic hair is already developed, it should be shaved at home the day before the procedure.
- The procedure is done under general anesthesia.
- The stitches are absorbable and do not need to be removed.
- After the surgery, the child stays for a few hours in the postoperative room.
- After the postoperative visit and parental instruction, the child leaves home with the parent.
- Parents continue to care for and dress the wound at home according to the doctor's instructions until it is completely healed.
- Swelling, bruising, and pain may occur after the procedure, but these symptoms will disappear within two weeks.
- Choose loose-fitting cotton underwear for a few days after the procedure.
- We recommend applying chamomile compresses and lubricating the scar to prevent tissue thickening.
- A follow-up examination is recommended in 5-7 days.
