Breast augmentation with silicone implants is a plastic surgery procedure that increases the volume and changes the shape of a woman's breasts by inserting silicone breast implants under the breast gland (subglandular) or under the breast muscle (submuscular). Each method has its pros and cons. The incision is usually 3-4 cm long and is most often made in the fold under the breast. During the preoperative examination, the plastic surgeon assesses the size of the client's gland, skin elasticity, and muscle strength. All these factors influence the method of implant insertion. If the implant is not sufficiently "hidden", the result is unaesthetic. The tissue should cover the entire implant, otherwise, there is a risk of an unnatural breast appearance. The surgeon's goal is to leave as little visible, well-hidden scar as possible.
Breast augmentation is suitable for women who are not satisfied with the size and shape of their breasts, suffer from asymmetry, or whose breast volume is affected by childbirth, weight reduction, or aging. It is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery. Before the procedure, a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary, during which the client discusses her expectations about the new décolleté with the doctor, who considers the client's possibilities and anatomical prerequisites.
It is recommended to perform the procedure in adulthood, after the development of the breast glands is complete. Breast augmentation can also include breast lift or correction of breast asymmetry. It is preferable to insert implants into breasts that will no longer change due to breastfeeding. After childbirth, it is recommended to undergo the procedure after at least 1 year.
